We are Molly Gallagher and Kate Teipel, a niece
and aunt who live in a Milwaukee North Shore suburb, which has been named,
along with the rest of the North Shore area, as having the highest incidence
of breast cancer in Wisconsin. We have lost a sister/mother to breast cancer,
have another sister/aunt who has breast cancer, and a brother/uncle who is
a twenty -five year survivor of testicular cancer.
We have taken many walks and talks together over
the years and now do so with Molly's sweet children. We have become aware
of the growing number of lawn signs warning " Keep Off- Pesticide Application
". There is strong research to support a link between pesticides and not
only breast cancer but childhood leukemia and other cancers. We believe that
" environmental awareness begins in your own backyard." Each of us can only
control what we do in our own homes and yards. We want our neighborhood and
our world safe for our children and for all children to come.
Our vision is that people like you will post these
signs on pesticide free lawns to gently demonstrate that there is another
way to define a lawn - one that creates a safer and healthier environment
for all.
Please join our vision.
Thank you.
